Prime PBX, Inc. is an outgrowth of a successful telecom business, United Systems Access (USA). USA
operates several businesses including: USA Telephone, a telecom business; Prexar USA, an ISP; and
USA TeleCenters
which operates a Data Center including a class 4/5 telephone switch and related equipment. USA
TeleCenters also provides CoLo facilities. USA TeleCenters has interconnection agreements with a
host of telecom
providers including Global Crossing, Qwest, Verizon, Sprint, MCI and others.
United Systems Access has been in business since 1999 and has a customer base in excess of 35,000.
Customers include businesses and residential customers reaching from Maine to Pennsylvania.
The primary objective of PrimePBX is to leverage the knowledge and capabilities of the team and
facilities of United Systems Access to deliver a truly unique voice and data solution package of
services to small to medium companies. This solution combines an extremely feature rich IP-PBX
at a very low price with reduced operating expense for our customers via VoIP.
The executives and staff who have made United Systems Access successful are integrally involved
with PrimePBX. The key members of the organization are:
Mr. Field is an experienced entrepreneur with a unique combination of experience in three different
business sectors including telecommunications (United Systems Access, a CLEC and ISP), manufacturing
(with Creative Machine Enterprises, a manufacturer of precision molds used in the plastic injection
industry) and in the hospitality industry (as a principal in Coastline Management Company which
developed and operates hospitality properties).
Most recently, Mr. Field has presided as President of United Systems Access, Inc., a successful
communications service provider.
Mr. Gilbert is a 30-year veteran and respected innovator in the software and telecommunications
industries. Mr. Gilbert entered the telecom industry in the late 1960s where, as a graduate student
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he concentrated on the development of an MIS
framework, thus launching his career as a systems software developer. Subsequently, as general
manager of Scully Systems in Wilmington, Mass., he spearheaded construction of, what was then, the
Northeast's largest data communications network. From 1980 to 1983, he was senior project manager
for General Electric, where he designed the first fourth-generation-language software package for
managing manufacturing companies. He has developed or co-developed many industry firsts,
including a voice-response authorization system for BankAmericard (now VISA) and the first laptop
computer weighing less than 15 pounds.
In 1983, Mr. Gilbert founded Generation Fifth Applications (GFA), a software development firm.
Platforms developed and implemented by GFA in the early 1980s continue to serve major corporations
such as NCR, Iron Mountain, and Gettysburg Insurance; and the company's Library Archival System
remains a mainstay for research libraries at Harvard, Cornell, Yale, and the Library of Congress.
In 1995, Mr. Gilbert and others founded cyberTours in an effort to facilitate Internet communication
between GFA and its university clients. The ISP venture became highly successful in its own right,
profitably providing low-cost Internet access in a market known for some of the highest telephone
rates in the nation.
In 1999 he founded United Systems Access.
John Kane was a Senior Systems Administrator for Aliant Telecom of Canada. John was responsible for
building out a state-of-the-art Data Center in Bangor, Maine which Aliant used to deploy its
services in the US. This facility was designed as a Carrier Class environment, capable of supporting
over one hundred thousand customers. United Systems Access purchased the US assets of Aliant in
August 2000. John became Director of Operations for USA Telephone. John has been the prime technical
resource responsible for the installation and support of USA TeleCenters (a United Systems Access
subsidiary) Class 4/5 telephony switch; the development of the full featured IP-PBX systems for
Prime PBX and the design, implementation and support of the VoIP network for USA TeleCenters.
